We
originally intended to paint the house with essentially the same colors and in essentially the same
manner it is currently painted. However, a prior owner (or owners) splattered a substantial
amount of stucco on the brick base during earlier applications of stucco. As you can see in the
photographs, this splattering significantly detracts from the appearance of the home. I have been
unable to find a contractor who can remove the stucco from the brick. To cover the splatters, we
would like to paint the brick base the same color as the stucco. We believe that covering the
splatters with paint would give the home a much neater and more attractive appearance.
We understand that, as residents of a Historic Preservation District, we must seek the
approval of your Commission to paint the unpainted brick base of our home. Therefore, we ask
that you find that the presence of unsightly and unremovable stucco splatters justifies the
painting of the brick base of our home.
We would be happy to provide any additional information the Commission may need.
Thank you for your attention to this matter:
Sincerely,
Edward A. Murphy
