MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />of the <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />Monthly Meeting <br />7:30 p.m. <br />Tuesday, February 16, 1999 <br />County Commissioner's <br />Conference Room <br />7th Floor County -City Building <br />I. Call to Order <br />John Oxian, president of the commission, brought the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. <br />II. Roll Call <br />Commission members present were: John Oxian, Joann Sporleder, Catherine Hostetler, Adrian <br />Fine, Ron Zmyslo, Janeanne Petrass and Jerry Wiener. Commission staff present was: Ed <br />Talley, director and Aladean DeRose, consul. <br />Also attending the meeting were: Don Sporleder, Kari Gallagher, Richard Helmus, John <br />DeLee, John Olson, Tony Goldy, Grant Epstein and Ken Herceg. <br />III. Public Hearing <br />A. Certificate of Appropriateness Applications <br />1. 1999-0208 - 112 S. Lafayette, rear addition <br />Mr. Talley presented the staff report and circulated photographs. He also noted architects and <br />engineer, John DeLee, Don Olson and Ken Herceg were present from Herceg & Associates Inc. <br />Mr. Herceg introduced everyone and then gave the floor to Don Olson. Mr. Olson displayed the <br />new construction drawings for the Commission members to follow along with. He briefly <br />discussed how the project began and the buildings history. He further noted that a rear addition <br />to the building was essential to accommodate todays code requirements for bathrooms, <br />elevators, stairs and fire protection devices. Mr. Olson stated that the second floor courtroom <br />was to be restored to 1873 condition and the first floor to 1855. There was more discussion <br />over meeting todays code requirements. He also noted that surrounding landscaping would be <br />included in this project to encompass new historic style fencing and plaza area. Mr. Oxian <br />asked what type of lighting would be used. Mr. Olson stated that he has located an historic <br />style light post which would be conducive with the historical fabric of the building. Mr. Talley <br />stated that he has supplied Herceg and Associates with photographs and catalog pages depicting <br />appropriate period lights. There was more discussion over the style of lights to be used and <br />their location around the courthouse. <br />Mr. Olson went on to discuss the condition of the structure, specifically noting that the floors <br />would have to be beefed up with extra supports to handle the weight of an assembly. There was <br />some discussion over the buildings acoustics. <br />
