Edward Talley Director Historic Preservation Commission _ of South Bend & St. Joseph County City County Building South Bend, IN 46601 Dear Ed: Near North west Neighborhood INCORPORATED A Included in the binder which contains this letter are applications for certificate of appropriateness or permission for demolition for six houses on north Saint Joseph Street. Three of -these houses are owned by the Near Northwest Neighborhood Inc.,. and three are owned by Memorial Hospital. These are the homes initially involved in the Riverbend initiative a cooperative effort between the N.N.N. and Memorial Hospital. We are acting as contract manager for the renovation of four of these homes; two hopefully will be demolished. These are the two that you and John Oxian formerly inspected, a duplex 508/510 and a single house at 512. Both are in serious disrepair and not within a reasonable financial framework for repair._ The N.N.N. owns 508/510 and Memorial Hospital owns 512. The houses that will need certificates of appropriateness for exterior renovation are 612 and 610, owned by the N.N.N. and 512 and 520 owned by Memorial. _ We have included -the materials requested -and a check for $18.00 to cover processing. Please let -us know if there is any other information you require. It is our understanding that these applications will be discussed at the July HPC meeting, at which we will be present to discuss this project. We are hoping for a timely consideration as now that we are able to proceed we are anxious to do so, and so are the neighbors. We took a group of neighbors on a tour which included MPC Board member Catherine Hostetler and they appeared enthusiastic with our work proposal. Thank you for your time and consideration.
