CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS STAFF REPORT
RECOMMENDATION
The shingle sign to be installed by this proposal was previously extended from
the front porch of the building at this site. This mounting proved problematic
with regard to wind load. The applicant therefore proposes to remount the sign
a a ground sign by suspending it from a frame constructed with a beam fixed
between two turned wood posts of approximately 6" to 8" square.
The sign is to be installed perpendicular to the street. It is to be located
as near the Colfax Avenue sidewalk as practical (2 feet ±) and centered
between HLFI's private sidewalk an the east propertyline. The sign is to be
illuminated from ground lights.
Having been aware of the difficulties related to the sign's previous location,
staff.is supportive of the new building identification strategy. The ground
sign will effectively identify the business function of the property while
having less impact on the appearance and integrity of the Landmark building.
Staff recommends approval.
DBD
2/6/98
