S111 <br />STATEMENT OF •SIGiViFICANCE /HISTORIC CONT&r - <br />Whitcomb and Keller built this H.R. Stapp designed Tudor `Revival style house <br />in 1927 as'a rental. They rented it in 1921 to Homer A. & Bessie Robinson <br />until 1927 when'the house was sold to them. Mr. Robinson was the vice <br />president of the Whitcomb and Keller Corporation. He was born in 1578, in New' <br />York and moved to.South Bend at age,of 5. He married Bessie Keller, <br />sister of Fred Keller, the developer of Sunnymede and one of the founders of <br />the Whitcomb and Keller Corporation. Mrs. Robinson passed away in 1930, Mr. <br />Robinson continued to reside in the house until 1931 when he sold it to J. <br />Bruce and Clara Gafill. Mr. Gafill was the president of Gafill Oil Company,. <br />with offices in. the Dean Building and the Lafayette Building. Mrs. Gafill <br />continued to live- in the house after her husbands death, until her own demise <br />in 1960. Their son J. Bruce Gafill Jr., inherited the house and sold it <br />shortly after his mothers death to _Martin and Shirley Weishaar. Thoy resided <br />in the house For only two years, - selling it to Richard B. "'_organ in 1902. 'iir. <br />Morgan was a department manager for a Packaging Corporation, he 'Lived there <br />until 1964 when it was sold to the Trustees Diocese of Northarn Indiana. They <br />used the house as a rectory until 1972 when it was Sold to Charles E. Cassidy, <br />director of marketing for LaSalle Dietch. He lived in the house until 1954 <br />when it was bought by Charles A. Geoffion. Mr. Geoffion was an employee of <br />the City Pathology Department, he resided there until 1936 when the house was <br />sold to Ralph Komasinski. Mr. Komasinski was, 'direcLor of employee relations <br />at S B C S C. He inhabited the house until 1994 when he sold it r_o the <br />current owners, Gabriel and 'MicheTla Shakour. <br />PROPOSED CHANGE <br />,1ppl:icant proposes to convert an enclosed porch back into a screen porch./sun <br />room. <br />ST. =ARDS <br />The Preservation Guidelines for <br />b): ...
