• 1.) Its character, interest and value as part of the development , heritage, <br />or culture of the city of South Bend, St. Joseph County, the state of Indiana <br />or the United States of America. <br />2.) Its embodiment of elements of architectural design, detail, materials, or <br />craftsmanship which represents an architectural characteristic or <br />innovation. <br />3.) Its educational value. <br />4.) Its suitability for preservation. <br />The building fulfills criteria 461 as an example of development of <br />institutional amenities to the early suburban fringe which developed just <br />outside the north end of the original City of South Bend. The school served <br />the Historic neighborhood of Chapin Park, and was related by proximity to the <br />public park which was developed just previously. <br />The building fulfills criteria 462 as an example of Collegiate Gothic <br />style as employed by the South Bend School Corporation. The building is rated <br />Significant 11 in the Indiana Historic Sites and Structures Inventory. <br />The building fulfills criteria' #3 by the integrity of its original design <br />and environmental context. The building is central to the greatest <br />concentration of historic sites and neighborhoods in the city and is included <br />along many historical tours. <br />The building' fulfills criteria 464 by the integrity of its original <br />construction with only minor alterations. <br />• DBD <br />2/19/97 <br />
