South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - December 20, 1996
6. NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)
g. continued....
Their proposal is to acquire a parcel of land
south of the Boys & Girls Club from the
Commission and acquire a parcel of land
owned by the Boys & Girls Club in exchange
for the construction of the parking lot. The
acquisition of these two parcels of land will
result in a Mini -Block Six Development
(Campus Development).
Carl Ellison stated that there is an interest in
developing a park to the south and east of
their facilities, and that they would work with
all parties to insure the integration of the
exterior envelope in such in a way that all
parties involved would feel as though it was
an unobstructed open space tied to the
facilities on a nice campus setting.
He stated that they are interested in working
with all parties involved in the proposed
project, City Officials and departments, South
Bend Heritage Foundation, and the Boys &
Girls Club. Memorial feels that this is an
optimum site, state of the art, health center
that will serve a number of medically
underserved individuals, regardless of their
ability to pay. This proposed project also will
contribute to the overall development of this
area in which an enormous amount of time
and resources has been invested in such a way
that it adds an enormous asset to the area that
will help improve the quality of life for a
number of citizens and lead to the
redevelopment of South Sample Street.
6.
