Staff report on disposition of property in <br />the Sample -Ewing Development Area. <br />Mrs. Kolata noted that the staff received a <br />proposal from Memorial Health System, <br />Inc. to purchase a parcel of land in the <br />Southeast Neighborhood to build an Urban <br />Care Center. She stated that Memorial <br />Health System, Inc. is asking to purchase <br />approximately 1.5 acres of land. <br />Carl Ellison, stated that Memorial Health <br />System, Inc. is requesting to acquire a <br />parcel of land in the southeast <br />neighborhood, due south of the Family & <br />Children's Center Building. <br />He showed a drawing of the proposed <br />project and stated that they proposed to <br />build a two -story, sixteen thousand square <br />foot primary care medical facility. This <br />facility will replace services now being <br />offered at the Urban Care Center at 1708 <br />High St. <br />He stated that there are approximately <br />32,000 medically underserved citizens <br />within the community and most live within <br />the medically underserved area. The Urban <br />Care Center located across from <br />Studebaker School, served, with one <br />doctor on site, approximately 6,000 <br />patients in 1996, in a 8,000 s.f. building. <br />He stated that Memorial Health System, Inc. <br />wants to expand services, but are unable to <br />do so on the one acre site.
