• C. Correspondence
Mr. Duvall indicated that the office had received notification of a
Presidential Executive Order calling on Federal agencies to locate their `
.facilities in Historic Buildings and Districts. He had forwarded a memo of
this information to the County Commissioners and the -Department of Economic
Development for their information in attempting to.find tenants or occupants
for publicly owned historic buildings or other planning projects. Mr. Oxian
suggested sending a similar memo to School City as they also own National
Register properties.
D. Committee Reports
1. Budget & Finance
Mr. Oxian indicated that this committee should meet in the near future to
prepare for the County and City budget hearings in the fall.
3. Legal
Mrs. DeRose reported no legal activity.
4. Historic Districts
A) Monroe Park
Mrs.- Choitz discussed the meeting with Monroe Park residents which she had
attended with Mr. Fine. Ms. Jeltz and Ms. Levitgky were present representing
this group. Mr. Fine' said that he had made a presentation, about what the
commission does and what a Historic District is. .He said the meeting was
• fairly short being on a Friday evening. Carter Wolf and Tom Eddington were
also in attendance at the meeting. Mr. Wolf, had stated a hope, to relocate the
Center City Associates office into the "Fat Daddy" building on Michigan south
of Western Avenue. Mr. Oxian stated that he had once considered including this
commercial block in the Monroe Park boundary but now believed that they should
be separate districts. Ms. Jeltz noted that her property was contiguous with
commercial properties and would find advantage in having the commercial area
designated. Mr. Oxian pointed out that this would have implications for both
the preservation guidelines which would need to address the very different
commercial context, and for the ballot process, where a whole different
constituency would need to be courted and satisfied.
Staff was instructed to send the Historic District application -form materials
to Ms. Levitsky.
5. Historic Landmarks
a. Recommendation s to the County Council
Mr. Oxian reported that Olive Twp. School 412 and the Mishawaka Reservoir
Caretaker's house will come before the County Council in the next month.
501 West Colfax has been sent to Common Council but has not yet come up for
first reading.
b. Leeper Park Proposal
Mr. Oxian asked why this item was on the agenda as a committee report. Mr.
Duvall noted that the public hearing had occurred and second reading had been
tabled at that time. The second reading for a vote was therefore to be found
in the old business section of the June agenda.
c. Landmark Proposals
5. Standards & Maintenance
Mr. Fine indicated that the committee had no report.
