CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS STAFF REPORT <br />APPLICATION -- 1995-11XX <br />PROPERTY -- 1216 East Wayne Street North <br />South Bend IN <br />OWNER --Brian Godfrey <br />DESIGNATION -- LHD-EW <br />STATEMENT OF.SIGNIFICANCE/HISTORIC CONTEXT <br />This Colonial Revival style house was designed byH.R. Stapp and constructed by <br />Whitcomb & Keller in 1925. It is a two story brick with asbestos cement <br />shingles and an eyebrow window centered on the -front roof of the attic story. <br />It was originally occupied by Cornelius J. Morris, a sales manager for the <br />O'Brien Varnish Company and his wife Alta. <br />PROPOSED CHANGE <br />The applicant proposes the replacement of the roofing material. <br />STANDARDS <br />2.B.2 Recommended <br />Whenever possible, the original shape and materials of the roof should be <br />restored. Particular effort should be made.to retain materials such as slate, <br />tile, and other unique materials not commonly found in new construction. Roof <br />covering which is deteriorated beyond repair should:be replaced with new <br />material which matches as closely as possiblethe original composition, size, <br />shape, color, and texture. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />This application has been accepted on after the application deadline on an <br />emergency basis and claim of hardship. At this date, the Staff has not had <br />opportunity to review specifications or field conditions. <br />DBD <br />11/15/95 <br />
