3. CDBG Grant status
a. State Board of Accounts audit
Mr. Duvall reported that during the preceding week our ledgers and files had
been reviewed by the State Board of Accounts. The auditor had expressed
continued concern with the situation created wherein the HPC has assumed the
role of an employer.
4. Indiana Heritage Research Grant program
Mr. Duvall noted that this program might be helpful in funding the work on
brick streets which has been proposed. Much mapping will be required for this
project.
5. Report on conferences attended:
a. Cornelius O'Brien Conference
Mr. Duvall reported that he and Mr. Oxian had attended this event in Fort
Wayne. Mr. Oxian discussed his attendance at sessions on the Lustron houses
and on the Lincoln Highway. The speaker at the latter session expressed
interest in South Bend's proposed Lincolnway West LHD and has offered to
provide any information that he can.
Mrs. Choitz added that in the East many small towns are developing
celebrations on the theme of the Lincoln Highway.
Mr. Oxian also discussed the session on Man-made Landscape study.
V. Old Business
A. Brick Streets of South Bend
Mr. Oxian noted that this item had already been discussed.
B. Adoption of Rules
VI. New Business
Mr. Talley discussed the correspondence which he has had with the city
engineer regarding transferring possession of the original Kessler drawings
for the city park system to NIHS when the city has finished copying them to
digitized mapping system. This brought him to the issue of getting a terminal
for HPC to access the Geographical Information System. Mr. Duvall indicated
that there was no question as to the value of access to engineering and area
plan data but that the hardware requirement would probably be costly. Mr.
Oxian suggested that Mr. Duvall inquire after the feasibility of such
networking.
Mr. Oxian raised the issue of the preservation of modern buildings, especially
citing buildings from the 50's and 60's.
VII. Hearing of Visitors ,
Marsha Stevenson responded to Mr, Oxian that she wished complete her term of
Neighborhood Liaison without raising any issues at a HPC meeting.
VIII. Announcements & Miscellaneous Matters
There were no additional matters raised.
IX. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
