Commission and adopted by the Common Council. Mr. Oxian recommends sending a <br />similar resolution to the County Council. Commission members are to receive <br />copies of the Plan Book. The Commission discussed means of disseminating <br />information on an annual basis with the spring letter to update district <br />residents about resolutions & policies which may impact standards & <br />procedures. Mr. Duvall noted that a grant application has been submitted to <br />the Indiana Humanities council seeking funding for reprinting out of print <br />District Preservation Plans and the coming annual letter. <br />b. The pending amendment to ordinance allowing waiver of a redundant public <br />hearing in the establishment of Local Historic Districts has been passed by <br />the Common Council. A change in state law would still be required to allow the <br />HPC to introduce the establishment of a Local Historic Preservation District. <br />3. Historic Districts had no report <br />4. Historic Landmarks <br />a. Status of recommendations to Common Council - Mr. Oxian Reported the <br />following: <br />534 LaPorte Avenue (Starzynski Texaco Gasoline Station) nomination is still <br />pending. Mr. Oxian is considering its withdrawal due to alterations at the <br />building. <br />221 North Michigan (Roma) will be withdrawn as it has been demolished. <br />237 North Michigan (LaSalle Hotel) is still pending receipt of consent from <br />the owner. <br />511 West Colfax (Birdsell /Nimtz Building) has been advertised for second <br />reading and public hearing at the Common Council. <br />518 South Michigan (Pro Sound) has not yet been sent to council. HPC now has <br />committed support from Dept. - - -of - Economic Development -to sent- -the-- ordinance <br />forward. <br />b. Proposed Landmarks pending second reading <br />Streetlight at NW corner Stanfield & Pokagon <br />before submitting ordinance. <br />still requires greater research <br />c. Frame Family cemetery - Mr. Talley reported that Ms. Toni Cook has <br />photographed the cemetery. She and the owner have stored the headstones which <br />are to be reburied under a new boulder marker. The roadway has been rerouted <br />and the plot is being dedicated in the deed. The plot is to be secured by a <br />fence and landscaped with a perennial groundcover. It was generally agreed <br />that Mr. Coorsman, the developer of this subdivision was doing a good job and <br />responding to historical concerns appropriately. Mr. Oxian indicated that he <br />should receive some commendation upon completion of this project. Ms. Choitz <br />expresses concern that the County Library and Genealogy Society receive <br />records. Mr. Oxian further noted that this plot had not been on the list of <br />old and abandoned cemeteries prepared some years ago. Mr. Talley indicated <br />that he was endeavoring to familiarize himself with those sites during this <br />summer. <br />5. Standards & Maintenance had no report. <br />6. Personnel - Mr. Duvall indicated that the availability of the <br />administrative assistant's position has been advertised. Five applicants have <br />been interviewed to date which represents all qualifying resumes which have <br />been received to date. He does not anticipate additional applicants though <br />some resumes may continue to straggle in. Of those interviewed, two candidates <br />seemed to be promising.
