Minutes of the Regular Meeting <br />of the <br />Historic Preservation Commission <br />Regular Monthly Meeting 7th Floor County Commissioner's <br />7:30 p.m. Conference Room, County -City Building <br />September 19, 1994 <br />I. Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. <br />II. Roll Call <br />Members present: Mrs. Martha Choitz, Mrs. Catherine Hostetler, Mr. John Oxian, <br />Mrs. Janeanne Petrass, Mrs. Joanne Sporleder, Mr. Jerry Wiener. <br />Staff present: David B. Duvall - Director, Aladean DeRose - Legal Counsel, <br />Christine Anderson - Administrative Assistant. <br />Members absent: Mr. Jed Eide, Ms. Lora Spaulding, Mrs. Jewel VanDalsen. <br />Also Present: Andrew Greta, Heidi Bechtold, Miles Andrew, Cythia Diamond, <br />Marsha Stevenson, Ed Talley, Kathy Dempsey (Code Enforcement). <br />Christine Anderson was introduced as the new Administrative Assistant. <br />III. Public Hearing <br />A. Certificates of Appropriateness <br />1. 978 Riverside Drive -- RSD-LHD <br />Mr. Duvall read the Staff Report. Commissioner Sporleder inquired as to the <br />color of the replacement half round gutters to be replaced with ogee profile. <br />46' Mr. Duvall responded the sample he was shown was brown, which would be <br />appropriate for a Prarie Style structure. Commissioner Choitz moved to approve <br />the application. Commissioner Petrass seconded the motion. The motion was <br />Passed unanimouslv. Commissioner Sporleder asked Mr. Duvall to consult with <br />the applicant in regard to color. <br />2. 1308 East Wayne Street -- EW-LHD <br />Mr. Duvall read the Staff Report. President Oxian asked for clarification on <br />whether' the application was just for widening the walkway. Mr. Duvall <br />responded the application was also for moving the walkway further from the <br />front foundation. Commissioner Sporleder moved to approve the application. <br />Commissioner Hostetler seconded the motion. The motion was passed unanimouslv. <br />3. 405 West Wayne Street -- LL <br />Mr. Duvall read the Staff Report and noted the owners had a sample to submit. <br />Mr. Duvall asked the owner if the sample railing was cast. Mrs. Diamond <br />(owner) replied that the rail had been found in the basement of the building. <br />Commissioner Sporleder inquired as to whether there was more than one section <br />of rail in the basement. Mrs. Diamond indicated there were several. <br />Commissioner Choitz noted at one time, the rails were on the roof. Mrs. <br />Diamond indicated the railing still existed on the widows walk and inquired <br />whether the remaining railing would have been around the perimeter of the main <br />roof. President Oxian indicated the rail would have been on the larger part of <br />the roof. Commissioner Sporleder inquired as to the original orientation of <br />the railing. Mrs. Diamond stated they had the new railing oriented upside-down <br />from the original orientation due to the sharp edges on the top of the rail. <br />
