Carl Strandlund,..-an encrine6r-inventor, <br />devised a teclinoloav to produce prefabricated steel houses. At the <br />end of the war Strandlund worked as vice-president of Chicago <br />Vitreous Enamel Companv, a firm that had, recently moved into, the <br />-production of porcelain enamel Panels for use as veneer on store <br />x <br />When Strandlund later- attempted to. convince Standard -Oil, to use <br />these enamel nane.l's as pa -rt of an all steel gasoline station, the <br />covernment- banned his proposal. However; in the face of postwar <br />material shortages, the-qovernm'ent suggested that Strandlund produce <br />houses instead. .
