historic reservation commissi
commission
0 of south bend and st. joseph county
ROOM 1123 COUNTY CITY BUILDING
south bend, indiana 46601 (219) 284-9798
As for the other structures in the neighborhood your refer to that have had
COAs for window replacement, HPC records showthat these windows were
determined to be "deteriorated beyond repair" as required. In addition, one
of these projects consisted of replacing aluminum windows --not historic
windows original to the structure --with vinyl -covered windows.
The commission would like to bring this matter to a satisfactory
conclusion; please contact me immediately so that we can come to an
understanding of what you intend to do --pursue repair or continue to apply
for replacement of the windows. I must again remind you that applying for a
certificate of appropriateness is a legal responsibility not an option.
I will give each member of the HPC a copy of your letter and request that
you attend the March meeting. Property owners who wish to provide the
commission with additional information should present that information
themselves.
Sincerely,
Fred M. Holycross
cc: John Oxian
President, HPC
Cynthia Brubaker
HPC
Jewel Van Dalsen
HPC
Aladean DeRose
Deputy City Attorney
•
