y HOWARD DUKES
ribune Staff Writer
SOUTH BEND — The next step
i the Riley High School/Jackson
Liddle School saga will be for the
rehitects to develop a feasibility
study for the proposal approved by
the school board during its March
23 meeting.
However, before the architec-
tural firm can get authorization to
develop the study, the board and
administration must clearly define
what they are asking the architects
to do, said board president Karen
White.
The vote taken on March 23
seems clear enough. The trustees
voted 4-3 to convert Jackson Middle
School into a high school and *b1ild
a new middle school on the
venue site.
But since the construction of'a
ew middle school on Ewing was
of among the options considered,
o feasibility study was developed
or that proposal, said Monte
river, superintendent.
"Basically we made a decision
to build a new middle school on
e Ewing Avenue site) with no in-
rmation on that option," said
Ate.
Also, while trustees Nancy King,
6ert Sweeney, Carol Loeffler and
harles Lennon agree that a new
Adle school should be built on
e Ewing Avenue site, they differ
ornewhat in how that school
ould be built and what should
ppen to the current Riley build -
9.
White said before the architee-
at firm of Mathews, Purucker
d Anella Inc. can receive board
uthorization to develop a study, its
cope must be defined better.
Because so much still 'needs to
ironed out, it is unlikely that the
and will vote to authorize the firm
begin work on. the — n
onday's meeting.
White said the board W1911 no
e the authorization vote on Mon -
ay; the May 4 meeting may be
ore realistic.
White said the school board of-
ers will meet today with the ad-
iistration in hopes of hammering
t a more defined proposal.
