Committee <br />of the Whole Dear Don: <br />I am filing today an ordinance which will desig- <br />nate a portion of the Near Northwest Neighborhood <br />Stephen Luecke as a Local Historic District. I am pleased to <br />First District support the efforts of the neighborhood associa- <br />Donald Niezgodski tion members and the property owners within the <br />Second District area who desire this -designation. There are al- <br />ready eight Local Landmarks designated here. <br />William Soderberg <br />Third District <br />Proponents of the district believe that it will <br />encourage restoration of architecturally signi- <br />Ann Puzzello <br />ficant properties, will enhance pride in the area,'. <br />Fourth District <br />will _encourage new investment, and will provide <br />stricter maintenance standards for properties. <br />Fifths inskas <br />They have been gathering signatures of property <br />st <br />Fifth District <br />owners who favor the historic designation, and <br />Thomas Zakrzewski <br />look forward to further discussion with the Coun- <br />Sixth District <br />cil and the Historic Preservation Commission about <br />the historical significance of the area and the <br />Sean Coleman <br />benefits to be gained by designation of the local <br />At Large <br />district. <br />Loretta Duda <br />When this process began last June, the name for <br />At Large <br />the district was proposed to be Camp Rose. Since <br />then, Kankakee Historic District has also been <br />Eugene Ladewski <br />considered. The bill temporarily refers to the <br />At Large <br />area as the Near Northwest Historic District until <br />residents can formally choose the name.
