April 13, 1992
STAFF REPORT
Jed and Paula Eide
1121 E. Rated a C /10 on the city survey, the
building is a contributing structure in the East Wayne Street
Local Historic District and is situated among other revival style
homes of similar proportion.
This building was designed for and by H.R. Stapp, the
Whitcomb and Keller staff architect who designed a majority of
the homes in this district. He and his wife Eva lived here for
six years.
PROPOSED CHANGE
1. Brick Patio Replacement:
Located in back yard. The new bricks will closely match the
color and pattern of the original bricks. The rebuilt patio will
be raised approximately 2" over the current elevation of the
patio to relate better to the existing elevation of the
surrounding yard and improve drainage. The area of the patio ,►
will also be increased approximately 30 sq. ft. to include a
small area where grass has not been able to be grown.
2. Replace Screens in Second Floor Sleeping porch with Windows:
Adapt second floor sleeping porch at rear elevation of principle
building -for year -round use by replacing existing screens with
casement windows. The space cannot be used for a sleeping porch
because of the traffic noise from Jefferson and Eddy Streets.
By using 11 custom sized sashes, the size of all existing
openings can be maintained. The triangular, narrow rectangular,
and trapezoidal openings will be filled with fixed windows, while
- the four largest screen areas will - be. replaced with two pairs of
operable casement windows.
The screens will be saved and stored above the garage in the
event that a future owner wishes to restore the porch.
STANDARDS
I.
