a. Tuck -point foundation. Mr. Pastor reported that the foundation had loose mortar, of a patchy and incorrect type. Standards require compatible mortar and regular maintenance;.he therefore recommended approval. Mrs. Sporleder moved to approve the tuck -pointing; Mrs. Choitz seconded; motion carried unanimously. b. Demolish back porch. Mr. Pastor reported that the back porch is deteriorated and the foundation settling. It is not original to the house; it cannot be seen from the street. The staff therefore recommended its demolition and urged the Commission to make proposals as to how the newly -exposed facade might be finished. Mrs. Sporleder moved to allow removal of the porch and to have the exposed back wall secured in a manner consistent with the surrounding wall. Mrs. Dennen seconded the motion; motion carried unanimouslv. c. Reroof house with 3 -in -1 tab asphalt shingles. Automatically approved. d. Replace gutters and eaves troughs with contemporary counterparts. Mr. Pastor reported nothing in the standards specifically mentioning gutters and said they had a negligible impact on the exterior appearance. Mrs. Sporleder moved to approve the replacement. using anv materials that seemed appropriate. Mrs. Choitz seconded. Motion carried unanimouslv. e. Rebuild chimney with new brick. Mr. Pastor reported that the existing chimney was crumbling The staff recommended replacement, provided the color and texture of the bricks and mortar was as closely duplicated as possible as well as the chimney's original proportions. Mrs. Sporleder moved to approve; Mrs. Dennen seconded; motion approved unanimouslv. Questioned by Mrs. Choitz, Mr. Holycross affirmed that the staff would work with Mr. MacHatton on the project. 3. 325 W. North Shore Drive --Local Historic District. Mr. Pastor reported that the owner, Mr. Yeandel, wished to enclose the second -story rear balcony. Aluminum siding would be used to match existing siding. A 6/6
