Mr. Oxian described the workings of the relevant <br />ordinance and advised Mrs. Sporleder that the only <br />available option at' this point was to make a <br />recommendation to the Council. <br />Mrs. Choitz stated that the two -block area provided'a <br />buffer between the heart of the district and a nearby <br />commercial zone. The houses, admittedly, were not <br />up to the standard,of the rest of the district; they <br />were, however, restorable. <br />Mrs. Sporleder asked about the nature of the zoning. <br />Mr. Oxian said most of it was zoned B -residential. <br />Mr. Welsheimer said he suspected Mr. N. Shafer wanted <br />to shake off the historic district classification to <br />make it easier to zone the area commercial. <br />Some discussion of the 1987.court ruling (mentioned by <br />Mr. R. Nelson) followed. <br />Mr. Oxian outlined the procedure for making a <br />recommendation to the Council. He instructed Mr. <br />Holycross to draft'a letter stating the commission's <br />recommendation and'send it to the Common Council. Mr. <br />Holycross agreed to do so, and said he would also prepare <br />a more detailed report before meeting with the Common <br />Council Commission on Zoning. <br />Mrs. Choitz moved to send an unfavorable recommendation <br />to the Council on Bill 64-91. Mrs. Petrass seconded. <br />Motion carried unanimouslv. <br />Mrs. Sporleder advised Mr. Holycross to mention in his <br />letter that a public hearing had been conducted. <br />VII. New Business <br />A. Nominating Committee <br />I <br />Mr. Oxian added this item to the agenda. He nominated <br />Mrs. Choitz, Mr. Welsheimer, and Mrs. Dennen to the <br />nominating committee for next month's officer elections. <br />VIII. Hearing of Visitors <br />IX. Announcements and'Miscellaneous Matters. <br />X. Adjournment <br />The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 p.m. <br />
