Mr. Eide stated that if the drop is more than 30 inches,, some barrier must be installed of at least 42 inches. Ms. DeRose stated that the HPC's purpose is not to determine safety. Mr. Herendeen asked if the HPC could make a disclaimer_ -- --regarding- the safety-of-the project.— Mr. Oxian stated that it is within the Commission's ordinance, it is stated that the Commission must take into account public safety and welfare. Mr. Eide made suggestions to the draftsman and owner of the property regarding changes to the plan which would make it more aesthetically pleasing:and safer for the persons using it. These changes were incorporated into the plan. Mr. Oxian recommended that the HPC wait for DNR approval., but approve the deck.in concept, with the alterations suggested by Mr. Eide. Mr. Herendeen moved that the deck be approved upoft:;-.thel):dbnd*tion;:that, the deck meets all safety requirements and DNR approval. Mrs. Choitz seconded Mr. Herendeen stated that if any of Mr. Eide's suggestions are varied from, the property owner is to notify the Commission. - Motion approved. 3. 553 & 549 River Avenue Mrs. Dixon reported that the owners proposed to construct a privacy fence between their two garages and recommended to the Commission that -the application be approved. Mr. Nimtz moved that the application be approved as submitted. Mrs. Choitz seconded. Mr. Oxian asked how high.the fence would be, and Mrs.. Dixon reported that itwouldbe six feet tall. Motion approved. 4. 63907 Bremen Highway Mrs. Dixon reported that the owners wanted to add a porch to the house. The porch will wrap around the north and east 'sides. Mrs. Dixon submitted the drawings of the porch, supplied by the owners, to the Commission for discussion. Mr. Oxian stated that.he would like to know what the original porch looked like. Mr. Nimtz asked if the HPC had such a record. Mrs. Dixon read a former C. of A. stating that the former porch would be removed and replaced.with a stoop. Realizing that the new owners were not aware of the structure's architectural past, Mr. Herendeed moved that the application be tabled and that the owners be notified of the Commission's decision (that the porch is not in keeping with the Italianate style of the house), and given guidelines, photographs, etc. from which to develop a new plan. Mrs. Choitz seconded.- Motion econded.Motion approved. Mrs. Dixon stated that she would explain the Commission's reasons for tabling the proposal and offer assistance in developing a new plan.
