hand valve operators on the roof of the station. These, Mr. Fisher
asserted, are required under environmental law.
The second step of the plan would be more costly and involves a
separate C of A. It consists of installing a gravity sewer between
the Monroe and the Bronson stations. The problem with this proposal,
Mr. Fisher said, is that it would involve a lot of deep digging (up
to 20 feet) and would mean tearing up and replacing a three -block
length of street. The station itself would remain, but become non-
functional. Because of the high costs involved, the feasibility of
this part of the project is in doubt.
A question -and -answer session followed. Mr. Fisher assured the
Commission that no yards would be torn up, no trees removed, and
no great inconvenience created for the residents of the neighborhood.
The results of the projects will be increased efficiency, the elimi-
nation of combined overflow, and general upkeep/maintenance; no
significant changes to the appearance of the neighborhood will result.
Mrs. Sporleder suggested that the brick underlying the asphalt be
re -used. Mr. Fisher promised to suggest it but pointed out that
the city would have to be consulted.
Mr. Herendeen moved to approve; Mrs. Sporleder seconded; motion
approved.
Iv. Regular Business
A. Approval of Minutes. Mrs. Choitz moved to approve the minutes as presented;
Mrs. Petrass seconded; motion approved.
B. Treasurer's Report. Mrs. Petrass moved to approve the report as sent;
Mr. Herendeen seconded; motion approved.
C. Correspondence. See Appendix A.
D. Committee Reports.
1) Certificates of Appropriateness (report)
a) 600 block Edgewater --ED
Mrs. Dixon reported that.this C of A involves a boathouse on the
riverbank. The owner wishes to tear down the existing structure
and replace it with one exactly like it. She said she has been
advised to "keep an eye on" the owner. Mrs. Choitz objected to
the proposal on the grounds that the existing structure is not
the same as the original --which she said was much more attractive.
Mrs. Dixon pointed out that the property has changed hands several
times since the old boathouse was destroyed. Mr. Oxian suggested
the present owner be offered the option of replacing the boathouse
after some other design --including the original design. Mrs. Dixon
agreed to do so.
