t\\\ \ / ••
1865
City of South Bend
Joseph E. Kernan, Mayor
Office of the Mayor
NEWS RELEASE FROM: FOR RELEASE: 10:00 A.M.
MAYOR JOSEPH E. KERNAN WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 1989
FOR THE POINTE AT ST. JOSEPH APARTMENTS
I am very pleased to be here today with members of the South
Bend Redevelopment Commission, Lynn Carlson Weber - Vice President
of Can -American Realty, Peter Fugiel - Assistant Vice President of
John Nuveen & Company, and Steve Luecke representing the South Bend
Common Council. Today marks the start of construction of The
Pointe at St. Joseph, a very important project in the history of
South Bend. This is an $11.5 million, 202 unit apartment project
that is the first new residential project in the East Bank area.
The East Bank has been a priority project for the City since
1980 when it was declared a redevelopment area. Over the years,
countless people in our community have worked together to develop
the East Race and its surrounding area. We have seen these efforts
result in the construction and successful operation of the East
Race, the development of new restaurants, office buildings and two
hotels. Today we see the start of the first new construction
market rate apartments in the area. This project is important to
the East Bank, to the downtown and to the entire community.
The developer of the 202 unit apartment complex which fronts
County -City Building • South Bend, Indiana 46601 • 219/284-9261 0 Telefax 219/284-9892
