tj <br />Mr. Eide stated that if the drop is more than 30 inches, <br />• some barrier must be installed of at least 42 inches. <br />Ms. DeRose stated that the HPC's purpose is not to determine <br />safety. Mr. Herendeen asked if the HPC could make a disclaimer <br />regarding the safety of the project. Mr. Oxian stated <br />that it is within the Commission's ordinance, it is stated <br />that the Commission must take into account public safety <br />and welfare. <br />Mr. Eide made suggestions to the draftsman and owner of <br />the property regarding changes to the plan which would <br />make it more aesthetically pleasing and safer for the <br />persons using it. These changes were incorporated into <br />the plan. <br />Mr. Oxian recommended that the HPC wait for DNR approval, <br />but approve the deck in concept, with the alterations <br />suggested by Mr. Eide. Mr. Herendeen moved that the deck <br />be approved upod:.. the .dondTttion, . that the deck meets all <br />safety requirements and DNR approval. Mrs. Choitz seconded <br />Mr. Herendeen stated that if any of Mr. Eide's suggestions <br />are varied from, the property owner is to notify the Commission. <br />Motion approved. <br />3. 553 & 549 River Avenue <br />Mrs. Dixon reported that the owners proposed to construct <br />• a privacy fence between their two garages and recommended <br />to the Commission that the application be approved. <br />Mr. Nimtz moved that the application be approved as submitted. <br />Mrs. Choitz seconded. Mr. Oxian asked how high the fence <br />would be, and Mrs.. Dixon reported that it would be six <br />feet tall. Motion approved. <br />4. 63907 Bremen Highway <br />Mrs. Dixon reported that the owner's wanted to add a porch <br />to the house. The porch will wrap around the north and <br />east 'sides. Mrs. Dixon submitted the drawings of the <br />porch, supplied by the owners, to the Commission for discussion. <br />Mr. Oxian stated that he would like to know what the original <br />porch looked like. Mr. Nimtz asked if the HPC had such <br />a record. Mrs. Dixon read a former C. of A. stating that <br />the former porch would be removed and replaced with a <br />stoop. <br />Realizing that the new owners were not aware of the structure's <br />architectural past, Mr. Herendeed moved that the application <br />be tabled and that the owners be notified of the Commission's <br />decision (that the porch is not in keeping with the Italianate <br />style of the house), and given guidelines, photographs, <br />etc. from which to develop a new plan. Mrs. Choitz seconded. <br />• Motion approved. Mrs. Dixon stated that she would explain <br />the Commission's reasons for tabling the proposal and <br />offer assistance in developing a new plan. <br />
