material. It will have many certificates of appropriateness, •
all pending Southold approval.
b) 1120 E. Jefferson
Mrs. Dixon reported that this C of A concerned two trees in the
treelawn. One has died of Dutch Elm disease and the other may be
showing symptoms of the same disease. The property owner wishes to
remove these two trees and replant the entire treelawn with a uni-
form type of maple. Parks Department has approved and has furnished
a list of acceptable maples. Commission discussed the matter and
decided to have the existing trees checked by Dave Barncort, Land-
scape Architect, before proceeding, to make sure they really are
dead. Mrs. Dixon agreed to notify the property owners not to
proceed with their plans until after the check.
c) 1224 E. Jefferson --EW.
Mrs. Dixon reported proposed changes in two of the kitchen windows.
1) The rear window, which is not visible from the street, will be
enlarged. This change has already been approved based on past
precedent. 2) The other window, which has double -hung sashes, will
be replaced with a multipaned window to match the other windows.
Permission has been granted.
2. Budget and Finance --Computer Quotes
Mrs. Dixon has no positive action to report but has made progress
in deciding on a new computer for the commission. She has found •
a computer for $1395, which is $400 less than any previous quotes.
She stated that it was a better computer and hoped that the state
office would also approve the acquisition of a printer to go with
it. Proposed computer is a "generic model" but is IBM compatible.
Mrs. Dixon will furnish a list of price quotes for the next meeting.
3. Legal
a) Amendment to City Ordinance
Mr. Oxian stated that while the commission has control of main-
tenance/repairs of historic landmarks, it lacks such control of
buildings in historic districts. The purpose of the amendment
is to enable the commission to better meet the needs of the
Building Department. It would apply primarily to the city and
would probably not be brought out into the county, since no his-
toric districts currently exist outside the city. Mr. Newburn
moved to approve; Ms. Dennen seconded; motion approved.
4. Historic Districts
a) Meeting with Lincolnway East (Report)
Mrs. Dixon reported on an "interesting" meeting with some of the
property owners there. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss
and to get a review of the guidelines for this neighborhood. A
liaison committee is required to do this; Laura Wiseman-Gnoth •
agreed to serve as the head of the nominating committee. Mrs.
Dixon attempted several days prior to get a progress report from
Wiseman but could not reach her. Mrs. Dixon volunteered the
