And yet it is true. Few cities have <br />been built with so much regard for beauty." <br />-- Andre Maurois <br />The theme of the 1986 National Preservation Conference is "Preservation <br />20/20: A Focus on the Past and Future" focusing on the 20th Anniversary of the <br />National Historic Preservation Act. The Conference will be held October 15- <br />19, 1986 at the Vista International Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri. Over <br />2,000 individuals from across the United States will attend this major event. <br />Registrants at the event will represent leaders and practitioners in the field <br />of historic preservation. The 1986 Conference marks the first visit to Kansas <br />City by the National Trust. <br />The National Trust has planned for its 40th National Preservation Conference <br />a dynamite program. Highlights of the program include: <br />o Concurrent Sessions: Topics to be covered are Rural Resources; Old <br />Houses; Interiors; Urban Preservation; Preservation Education; <br />Historic Sites; Real Estate Development; Organizational Development; <br />Maritime Conservation; Revitalizat:1-on on Five Fronts; Neighborhood <br />Conservation; and, Preservation in England. <br />o Educational Workshops <br />o Fascinating Tours of and around Kansas City:. "All The Way From France: <br />Art Deco in Kansas City"; "Planned Suburbia - The Legacy of J.C. Nichols"; <br />"The Architecture of Louis Curtiss"; "Missionaries, Traders and Farmers"; <br />and "The Bus Stops Here: Harry S. Truman's Places" - just to name a few. <br />o Exciting Social Functions: Opening Night Reception to be held in the <br />recently rennovated Fedearl Bank Building, and the Final Night Gala. <br />o Dynamic Speakers: For the Thursday, October 16 General Session, the <br />National Trust is honored to have as its keynote speaker Congressman <br />John Sieberling (D -Ohio).
