They included homeowners, developers, business <br />owners, architects, students, tourists, neighborhood organizations, other <br />non-profit organizations, and governmental agencies. The Commission <br />offered advice and gave information on the National Register for Historic <br />Places, the 25% Investment Tax Credit, facade easements, landmark and <br />district designation, the Historic Sites and Structures Inventory, the <br />history of area buildings, researching historic buildings, the Secretary of <br />Interiors Standards, restoration techniques, adaptive use of historic <br />structures, funding sources, and preservation legislation. The Commission <br />received eight grants from six different funding sources to hire one full <br />time, one part time, and one temporary employee and to carry out three <br />major projects. The number of Certificates of Appropriateness for <br />landmarks and historic districts more than doubled in 1985 and the number <br />of Environmental Reviews increased. <br />The Commission continued its update of the Historic Sites and <br />Structures Inventory which is a requirement of the Indiana <br />Division of Historic Preservation and the Advisory Council on <br />Historic Preservation In Washington. Nine individual structures <br />were re -rated and all four local historic districts were updated <br />(approximately 220 structures). <br />In the fall of 1985, the County Summary Report was published. <br />The 250 page book includes a listing and photographs of historic <br />• structures in the unincorporated areas of the county, the small <br />towns, and St. Marys and Notre Dame Campuses; histories of the <br />county and the small towns; a description of the architectural <br />styles in the area; and general preservation information. The <br />Books have been distributed to various governmental offices and <br />libraries. <br />
