Wash.; Jim Conley, <br />HLFI; Leslie Choitz, Southhold; John Oxian, HPC; Martha Choitz, HPC; Brian <br />Crumlish, Crumlish/Spor. <br />Ms. Kiemnec introduced herself, explained the purpose of the meeting, who was <br />asked to attend, and then introduced special guests - Joe Pluta from the City <br />Engineer's office and Mr. Phil McDonald from I & M. After self -introductions <br />by participants, Ms. Kiemnec asked for concerns of owners. They included: <br />maintenance, architectural compatibility, increased light level, uniform <br />color, large freeway lighting, new modern replacement posts, height of <br />lighting fixtures - low enough to be effective in warmer weather (when trees <br />are out). <br />Some of the questions and opinions stated by the participants were: <br />- Perhaps a well-designed simple contemporary fixture would be appropriate <br />when early fixtures have all been lost. <br />- Are there lighting requirements for state roads, if so what are they, and <br />why do lighting types vary so (i.e. roadway lighting on S.R. 33 in S.B. <br />and boulevard lighting on S.R. 33 in Mishawaka). <br />- Mr. McDonald indicated that we need to decide how we want lighting to <br />function: as a decorative element or highway safety where there is heavy <br />traffic (approximately 20' to 30' above street). He stated that I & M is <br />only in the business of roadway lighting. Too expensive to maintain and <br />replace historic light fixtures. <br />He suggested 2 tariffs which would allow homeowners to purchase their <br />own fixtures and have a metered service for which they are charged (called <br />SLC). I & M would supply energy and relamp. City would maintain. The <br />other is SLCM whereby I & M supplies only energy. City or neighborhood <br />would have to pay for installation. <br />- How expensive will fixture replacement be if replaced at a rate of 1 every <br />year or so? <br />
