Appendix B Department of Administration & Finance
South Bend, Indiana
4 INTER -OFFICE MEMO
TO: KAREN L. KIEMNEC, DIRECTOR
HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
FROM: MICHAEL L. VANCE
CITY CONTROLLER
SUBJECT: 1985 BUDGET REQUEST
DATE: MAY 17, 1984
I am currently putting together the 1985 budget along with 1985
projected revenue levels. It appears the City will have to trim
approximately $4 1/2 million dollars from its budget requests in
order to be anywhere in the ballpark as to what we will be able
• to fund. I might add that these budget requests do not include
any salary increase for 1985. I realize that you have heard this
story before, but I am afraid that in light of our current financial
situation and the nonrecognition of our problems by the County
Council, we will not be able to fund your request for 1985. I
might suggest that you contact Jon Hunt to ask if there are any
monies available from the Community Development Program. I do
not hold much hope for that source either as we have had to
absorb expenses normally paid by Community Development in our
1985 budget.
I believe that the Commission has done good work in the past and
provided a needed service to the City, its businesses and
resources and with that in mind, I feel particularly sad that we
will not be able to grant your request. I might add that we have
in the past taken care of some of our part-time positions through
the Older Adults Program sponsored through Real Services. I
might suggest that you contact Dan Munk at Real Services and see
if there is any possibility of providing help for you.
If I may be of further help, please feel free to contact my
office.
MLV/caw
