March 21, 1983 <br />Page 3 <br />d. Legal <br />Mr. Wasielewski reported that a bill for last year's services had been received <br />from Mr. Butler. -The matter was referred to the Legal Committee. <br />e. Public'Relations & Community Education <br />.1) County Maps - no report. <br />f. Environmental Impact Statement: <br />Mr. Wasielewski reported that Ms. Kiemnec had approved a Certificate of Appro- <br />priateness for 553 River Ave. The new owners are replacing an old asbestos roof <br />with a new asphalt shingle one. Mr. Newburn moved that the Commission concur <br />with Ms. Kiemnec's action; Mr. Hayes seconded; motion passed. <br />g. Staff Report <br />1) Small Town Survey <br />Mr. Wasielewski passed out a report on the survey from the Planner (see <br />Appendix A). <br />2) Conferences <br />Mr. Wasielewski announced the upcoming conference by HLFI, "The Promises <br />and Pitfalls fo Historic District Commissions," and urged all Commissioners <br />to try to attend. It will be held Saturday, April 23, 1983 in Indianapolis. <br />The Commission agreed to ask its attorney, Mr. Kevin Butler to attend; his <br />registration fee will be paid by the HPC. <br />Mr. Wasielewski announced the April 8th Indianapolis Mayor's Conference on <br />Incentives and Standards for Development in Historic Areas. Mr. Newburn <br />made a motion to send the Preservation Planner, Ms. Kiemnec, and to pay <br />her $35 registration fee. Mrs. Spor.leder seconded; motion passed. <br />3) Water Damage <br />Mr.. Wasielewski reported that a water pipe filled with sludge in the ceiling <br />above the HPC office burst on Wednesday, March 16. Three Summary Reports <br />and eleven Inventory Catalogues were damaged and nine survey cards were <br />splattered. The County Commissioners had the office cleaned but would do <br />nothing about the damaged books or having the syrvey cards re -typed. <br />4) Fredrickson House <br />Mr. Wasielewski reported that Ms. Kiemnec will do two segments on Channel <br />34 on the Fredrickson House. They will be aired March 27 and April 10 at <br />12:30 P.M. <br />7. Old Business <br />No report. <br />8. New Business <br />1) American Water Landmarks <br />Mr. Oxian pointed out the article on the American Water Landmarks of the American <br />Waterworks Association in the Indiana Preservationist (February, 1983). He made <br />a motion that the Commission nominate the North Pumping Station on North Michigan. <br />Street as such a landmark; Mr. Hayes seconded; motion passed. <br />2) Fredrickson House <br />-Mrs. Sporleder made a motion that the Commission begin preparing the necessary <br />paperwork for a National Register Designation of the Fredrickson House; Mrs. <br />Choitz seconded; motion passed. Mr. Hayes abstained. <br />9. Hearing of Visitors <br />No report. <br />
