Public Relations & Community Education <br />1) County Maps <br />No report. <br />2) Studebaker Tour Project <br />Ms. Kierrnec asked for additions to or comments on the list of Studebaker <br />buildings in South Bend for the tour brochure which will be put together <br />(see Appendix C). <br />f. Environmental Impact Statement <br />No report. <br />g. Staff Report <br />1) Commission Secretary <br />Mrs. Sporleder made a motion to renew Ms. Fackelman's contract to the end <br />of August; Mrs. Petrass seconded; motion passed. <br />2) County Survey Update <br />Ms. Kiemnec passed out a report on buildings added to the county survey <br />and those which have been demolished since the original survey was done <br />(see Appendix D). <br />7. Old Business <br />a. Report on Indianapolis Mayor's•Conference <br />Ms. Kiemnec reported that she has the pre- application for the Jobs Bill Matching <br />Grants available for historic buildings and gave a report of additional informa- <br />tion gathered at the Indianapolis Mayor's Conference (see Appendix E). <br />b. Report on Historic District Commission Conference in Indianapolis <br />Various Commissioners reported on the conference and offered the packet of infor- <br />mation to those who did not attend the meeting. <br />c. Report on'South Bend Tax Incentives Conference - May 9 <br />Ms. Kiemnec reminded the Commissioners of the conference and urged them all to <br />attend. <br />8. New Business <br />Ms. Kiemnec reported on the Fredrickson Candy Store which caught on fire early that <br />morning. Damage was estimated at $10,000 to the building and $1000 to the contents. <br />The back porch, parts of the roof in the rear and parts of the attic were damaged; <br />interior damage by smoke and water was reported. <br />9. Hearing of Visitors <br />Mr. T. Brooks Brademas explained h i s concept for adaptive use of the Singer Manufa c - <br />turing Company buildings at 425 Niles Avenue. He plans to convert the buildings to <br />a mixed use of residential, office and commercial and would like the Commission's <br />endorsement of the project for his UDAG application which will be part of the long <br />term funding. Mr. Nimtz made a motion that - Commission fully approve of the <br />project; Mr. Newburn seconded; motion passed. <br />- Correction.Df °May 16, 1983: Mr. Brademas agreed to seek landmark designation for the <br />Singer Manufacturing Company buildings at 425 Niles Avenue after the National Register <br />status for the complex is official. <br />
