A Newsletter from COPAR, dated April, 1983 <br />1. a brochure on / th grooklyn Brownstone Conference in Brooklyn, to be held <br />June 12, 1983 <br />m. the Practising Law Institute News for February 28, 1983 <br />n. a letter from David Crim of National Brnk on the proposed three -year ban on <br />demolition of historic structures (so designated by the Historic Preservation <br />Commission- Appendix A). <br />6. Committee Reports <br />a. Budget & Finance <br />No report. <br />b. Historic Districts <br />1) Historic Districts Committee <br />Chairperson, Mrs. Choitz, reported that the Committee felt that the two <br />local districts which should be focused on this year are the West LaSalle <br />area and the Near East (E. Jefferson west of Eddy) in that order. <br />Mr. Oxian read a letter from Councilman, Mrs. Beck, regarding the Lincolnway <br />East local district (see Appendix B). The Commission agreed to support the <br />neighborhood's efforts to become a district. <br />2) 601 Lincolnway East <br />Ms. Kiemnec reported that she had met with Code Enforcement Director, <br />Kathy Barnard, to discuss a Receivership Program for the 601 Lincolnway <br />East residence. The city has funds available for the program and only a <br />receiver is needed. Letters went out to Southhold Restorations, Inc. and <br />Southold Heritage Foundation to see if they would be receivers. Mr. Oxian <br />made a motion that the Commission write to the Neighborhood Association <br />asking if they would be interested in being receivers for the project. A <br />copy of the Indiana Code regarding the receivership program will be included <br />and the group will be asked respond within 60 days. Mrs. Sporleder <br />seconded; motion passed. <br />3) Downtown District <br />Ms. Kiemnec reported that a preliminary application for a grant for a Down- <br />town Multiple Resource Area National Register Nomination study has been <br />submitted to the State Division of Historic Preservation. Mrs. Sporleder <br />made a motion that the Commission proceed with the Multiple Resource Area <br />project; Mr. Oxian seconded; motion passed. <br />c. Historic Landmarks <br />1) Second Reading on Landmark Designation of 702 S. Michigan <br />Mr. Oxian made a motion that 702 S. Michigan be declared a landmark by ordi- <br />nance and sent to the Common Council; Mrs. DeLaruelle seconded; motion <br />passed. <br />2) Madison School <br />Mr. Oxian suggested that Madison School be put on May's agenda for First <br />
