October 19, 1981
Page 3
islandmark or district designation. Reactions varied: some
owners said that if tax incentives were available, they would
prefer a district; others left the decision up to the discretion
of the Commission, and one owner preferred an individual desig-
nation. Mr. Oxian suggested a local district designation which
excluded the modern commercial structures.
Mrs. Price informed the Commission that the October 20 Area
Plan Commission Agenda included a rezoning proposal for
807 E. Jefferson Blvd. from B residential to C commercial.
It was agreed that members of the Commission attend the meet-
ing to add their input.
The advantages of the current tax act were discussed and whether
they might benefit the local districts.
(3) Edgewater Place Historic District
Mrs. Price reported on the Lincolnway East meeting of
Sept. 15, 1981 indicating that the main result was that the
neighborhood group was spurred to action on the four houses
owned by Panzica/Friedline. In a subsequent meeting by the
neighborhood, Mr. Oxian reported that it was decided that they
would: first, approach both Southhold Restorations and Southold
Heritage about receiverships for the three sub -standard buildings;
second, ask for C-1 zoning on both sides of Lincolnway East;
and third, look into the possibility of moving the houses and ask
Mr. Panzica his plans for the area. Mrs. Price suggested that
the Commission write to the Redevelopment Commission supporting
the C',-1 zoning by the neighborhood.
C. Mrs. Price confirmed that we have owner consent on all
three buildings. Mr. Oxian indicated that the house on Pine Rd.
is presently a Landmark by resolution. Mrs. Price questioned the
low rating and Mr. Oxian said although many county ratings were
upgraded, the school buildings could have been but were not. He
stressed the Pine Rd. building's historical significance as a
former school.
(2) School Buildings
Mr. Oxian indicated that he was contacted about the schools
and he will be meeting with representatives of the school corp-
oration within two weeks. He proposed that the buildings be
discussed at a future time.
(3) Abandoned Buildings Policy
Mr. Oxian indicated that he has sent the Policy to Mr. Kevin
