November 17, 1980
Page 2
5. Correspondence
John Stamper noted that the commission received a letter from
Smith—Cornell Homestead, Inc. of Auburn, Indiana, a manufacturer of
bronze plaques for historic homes.
He also received an invitation from the Historic Landmarks Foundation
of Indiana, for Sunday, Dec. 7th, for their Christmas House Tour in
Indianapolis. Mr. Stamper will not be able to attend, but invited
anyone else to make use of the ticket.
The National Endowment of the Arts sent a pamphlet with applications
for design projects.
Two letters from the Area Planning Commission, one regarding 121 North
Studebaker Street, and the other concerning 5450 South Miami Street - also
815 Arch Street. On all of these the APC returned favorable recommendations
to the Common Council for approval of Landmark Status.
A letter from the Historic Landmarks Foundation announced a meeting
this Monday, Nov. 24, for the statewide task force on the state survey
and state and national legislation.
John Oxian handed out a report on two of the sessions from the National
Trust Convention.
6. Committee Reports
City Survey - Mr. Stamper reported that all the histories on 11's,
12's and 13's have been written, typed, and corrections made to the
inventory catalog book. Mr. Stamper then presented the first draft
of the catalog book to the Commission. Mr. Stamper reviewed the work
needed to complete the survey. He also presented examples of the
HPC's original survey cards. In addition, negatives of all the 12's
and 13's need to be relabled, and state numbers checked. Graphics
in the book needs to be completed also. Headings shall be added
in the introductory section "Inventory Lists" and "Inventory Maps".
Mr. Stamper stated that he would like to have 50 copies of the first
edition printed to be distributed among libraries, commission members
and the state. The estimated printing cost was set from $500 to $1,000.
It was established that the commission should charge a fee to profit
agencies, should they wish a copy of the catalogue. December 30, 1980
was the date set for the first printing. Jeanne Derbeck inquired as to
future plans, possibly an auto tour guide book. Mr. Stamper responded:
stating that there are no post -survey plans in the works at the moment.
County Survey - Hannah Moore, the commission secretary, is producing
a list of the County Survey by Townships.
Ruth Price
moved that
the
first
printing of
the catalogue, as it now stands,
be done in
December.
John
Oxian
seconded.
The motion carried.
