February 20, 1978 <br />Page 2 <br />5. Correspondence <br />Ms. Candace Peck read Thomas J. Brunner's letter to the Commission as <br />well as a letter to Mr. Cloud from the Commission regarding the downtown <br />area. She then mentioned that she had sent information on landmarks, <br />landmark ordinances, resolutions, etc. to Ellen Kettler, National Trust <br />counsel in the Mid -West office, Ms. Kettler is checking over this ma- <br />terial and eventually it would be advisable to have her come here and <br />speak to neighborhoods and preservation groups establishing historic <br />districts. Ms. Peck then said she had written letters to Jeff Gibney <br />of Southold Heritage and Jack Smith of Southhold Restorations requesting <br />permission as a representative of this Commission, to attend their res- <br />pective meetings. A letter was written to Paul Miller, thanking him for <br />the picture he donated of the Leeper Bridge with its lights. Further, a <br />letter was written to Carl Ellison regarding the $8,000. needed for Brian <br />Crumlish to complete the city survey within the 1875 boundaries and sur- <br />vey all the area within 1925 boundaries for significant structures. She <br />said there has been no reply to this letter. <br />6. Committee Reports <br />City Survey <br />Mr. Wasielewski reported that he had spoken to two members of the Com- <br />munity Development Dept. concerning the funding of the city survey and <br />he needs to speak to the administration as well. He said the Commis- <br />sion has not obtained the $8,000 at this point. He asked Mr. Nimtz <br />40 about this and Mr. Nimtz said he was not at liberty to speak on this <br />matter. Mr. Wasielewski said he would have a report on this at the <br />next meeting. <br />Ms. Peck suggested that all city survey cards be sent out to be du- <br />plicated. She mentioned that it could be done at Notre Dame for 50,, <br />a copy, and it was figured out there are 510 survey cards, which would <br />amount to $25.50, if done once. Ms. Sporleder moved that two copies <br />be made of the city survey cards. Mrs. Price seconded this motion. <br />Ms. Sporleder also moved that the Commission duplicate the county sur- <br />vey cards twice. Mrs. Price seconded this motion. Both motions pas- <br />sed unanimously. Mr. Wasielewski said the Commission is doing the on- <br />going research for the historic aspects on the city survey and Jeanne <br />Denham is doing this work. <br />Budget and Finance <br />Mr. Oxian reported that another letter was sent in January asking that <br />the city reconsider the money requested from them. To date, there has <br />been no reply. <br />Historic Districts <br />Ms. Peck <br />informed the Commission that <br />the North Shore Triangle Historic <br />District <br />held a neighborhood meeting <br />February 15, 1978.
