June 20, 1977
Page 2
4.. Treasurer's Report
Mr. Wasielewski distributed copies of the June Treasurer's report
and it was duly noted by the Commission. He said the budget was not
changed.appreciably. There was, however, an expenditure for office
supplies with Business Systems for $14.34. Mr. Smith made a motion
the expenditure be approved and the report be accepted as submitted.
Mr. Rothermel seconded this motion and it passed unanimously.
Mr: Oxian then reported that at a recent Search Committee meeting,
- a recommendation was made to hire a summer research assistant for
the months of July and August at a cost of $500.00 per month. It
was pointed out that the Commission does have the funds available
to staff this position.
5. Correspondence
The Commission was brought up-to-date on the correspondence regarding
the Pharrow Powell House. Mrs. Farrow Powell had written to say she
consented to having the house declared a landmark. And Mr. John Bryant,
Chairman of the Pharrow Powell House Committee requested assistance from
the Commission in the restoration of this structure.
Ms. Davisson then interjected that a very short notice had been received
in regard to the scheduling of the Special Commission Meeting held on
June 1st.
Ms. Davisson had sent a letter to the consultants who would partici-
pate in the forthcoming "facade easement" seminar, including copies
of the standards and the Certificate of Appropriateness for their
personal comments.
Mr. Oxian asked permission to approach Ms. Joann Sporleder about tem-
porary consulting for the Commission. Informal conversation with Ms.
Sporleder led Ms. Davisson to doubt if Ms. Sporleder would accept such
an offer.
Next a letter was read from Mr. Ernest H. Kerr, who asked about zoning
restrictions for the structure at 704 W. Washington. He wishes to lo-
cate a graphic arts design studio there as well as reside there. There
seemed to be no objection to this usage and it was approved by Mr. John
Oxian.
A letter was read from Mr. LeRoy Troyer regarding a survey to be done --on
the Odd Fellows Building. His fees for filling out an historical sur-
vey form; preparing a preliminary economic feasibility study; and pre-
paring and submitting the application form for the National Register
were outlined. At the June lst meeting, Mr. Troyer was contracted to
prepare and fill out the architectural survey form at a cost of $300.00
and prepare -a written statement as to the worth - historically and archi-
tecturally - of this building, at a cost of $200.00.
