Old Business <br />Community Development Funds <br />This matter was taken up previously in the report by the Budget <br />Committee. <br />Plaques <br />Mrs. Sporleder mentioned that Valpariso had some plaques on <br />their historic homes, and perhaps these could be suitable for this - <br />area. A discussion ensued as to whether the Penetentiary at Michi- <br />gan City was still making markers, and it was decided to contact <br />this source and report back. <br />Auto Tour <br />This matter was handled previously. <br />Historic Plan <br />This matter was not taken up at this time. <br />Mrs. Sporleder reported on zoning and the proposed road changes on <br />the inner belt. The matter of the environmental impact statement <br />was discussed. Mr. Rinderle was instructed to call Murphy Associates <br />regarding this statement. <br />Mr. Oxian then spoke about the commemorative plaque on the old bridge. <br />He said the former bridge is near the East Race and on private property. <br />He announced he would get in touch with I & M about this matter. <br />8. New Business <br />There was no new business at this time. <br />9. Hearing of Visitors <br />Mr. Gerald Kline discussed the increasing deterioration of the <br />of the Michigan Street bridge between Leeper Park and North Shore <br />Drive. He felt something sould be done about it for it represents <br />75 to 76 years that are an integrel part of visual South Bend. He <br />said the Northern Triangle and harter Heights groups had a meeting <br />and this matter came up. Mr. Oxian said the Twyckenham bridge <br />also needed investigation and Mr. Richardson should be contacted <br />about these matters. Mr. Smith suggested that the Landmarks -- <br />Commi.ttee look into it. -A discussion followed regarding protec- <br />tive railings on this bridge. <br />Mr. Smith then spoke about the state of the railroad station and <br />the condemnation proceedings because iV is a potential hazard. <br />It was stated that the Union Station was declared an Historic <br />IIl Landmark by resolution. Mr. Smith remarked that -the Commission <br />is concerned about the state of this railroad station and sug- <br />gested that a letter be drafted to Mr. Morris in the Board of <br />
