February 3, 1976
Page 2
Silvermine Publishers: $4.45; Duplicating charges for December:
$2.50; Postage charges for December: $7.58 and to the University of
Notre Dame Library for photocopies: $10.80. Mr. Rothermel moved
that these bills be paid; Mr. Sivers seconded this motion and it
passed unanimously.
5. Correspondence
Mrs. Gilbert read a letter which Mr. Smith wrote to Mr. Larry Van-
osdol regarding the environmental impact statement on the Chapin
Street area. The Commission has not yet received an answer to this.
A letter welcoming Mr. Theodore Wasielewski to the Commission was
likewise read. Mrs. Gilbert then submitted flyers from the National -
Trust announcing writing awards and a community preservation confer-
ence. Mr. Carl Armstrong sent the Commission nomination forms and
guidelines for making application to the National Register of His-
toric Places. A form letter from Pat Osmon, Director of Commm ty
Affairs, regarding application for Community Development Funds was
submitted. It was noted that the date for the public hearing is on
March 4.
Report from Brian Crumlish
Mr. Crumlish spoke about his -enthusiasm for the County Survey and
brought the Commission up-to-date on the project. He mentioned that
a substantial amount of the work had been done. He said his firm
had spent about $900. just on mileage and film, and $500. for the:
Consultant, Mr. Gaede. Mr. Crumlish agreed that work still had to
be done: checking some names and addresses, re-evaluating the sur,
vey forms in order to upgrade some of the above average homes,
tracing over the penciled survey cards with ink, and recommending
registration of significant buildings which might be of state and
national interest. Mr. Crumlish said that he would consider having
Mr. Gaede back after the classification of structures has been com-
pleted. He also spoke about a base map (3' x 41) that his office is
preparing and which should be available at about March 22. Mr. Smith
suggested that Mr. Crumlish get together with some of the Commission
members and review the work.
Mr. Smith then distributed a list of committees and their members.
It was suggested that Mr. Rothermel and the Historic Landmarks
Committee meet with Brian Crumlish in his office -in about a week
and review those structures which should be considered as County
Landmarks. Mr. Al Stivers offered to work on this committee as
well.
5. Committee Reports
Budget and Finance
There was nothing to report from this committee.
Historic Districts
Mr. F. Jay Nimtz was not present and there was no report.
