December 20, 1976
Page 5
Mr. Smith remarked that he had previously covered the letter sent.
to him by Mr. Dunfee.
He then remarked that he was still in favor of holding two meet-
ings a month; one, the caucus meeting and the next week the re-
gular meeting. He suggested that each member be questioned as
to their preference. It was brought to the attention of Mr. Smith
that Mr. Al Stivers would probably not be able to attend Monday
night meetings due to previous -:commitments. Mr. Smith said he
still favored the 2nd Monday in the month for a caucus and the
third for the regular meeting.
Old Business
Ms. Kopezynski informed, the Commission that Mr. Tel Wasielewski
will not be able to make it at all to tonight's meeting, because
of the weather. Ms. Davisson was concerned that the Commission
move along with the project (the designation of an architectural
firm for the City Survey). She made a motion that each Commission
member be contacted by telephone. Mr. Smith stated that he was in
favor of having a special meeting or have a caucus. Mr. Catanzarite
felt the Commission might run into some problems if the Commission
ruled on this project this evening. Ms. Davisson then withdrew her -
motion. There was a discussion on this matter. Mr. Smith instruct-
ed staff to contact absent Commission members as to what night was -
most acceptable for another meeting. It was suggested that a possi-
bility was Thursday, December 30, or the caucus meeting date on the
10th of January, at 7:30 p.m. in the Area Plan Conference Room.
New Business
Mr. Oxian again spoke about the possibility of having a walking
tour in South Bend when the National Trust has its Conference in
Chicago in 1978. Mr. Smith felt the Public Relations and Education
Committee should work on this project. Ms. Davisson mentioned that
one of the end products of the Heritage Awareness pirogram done by
Mr. Crumlish of the Near Northwest Neighborhood Association was a
brochure with several walking tours outlined. And she explained
that the Commission might develop something along these lines. She
felt that perhaps the various neighborhoods could become involved.
Mr. Oxian toll the Commission that it was not premature to think in
terms of some Sunday tours of this nature. It was also suggested
that the Commission work with the Chamber of Commerce, but Mr. Oxian
stated that the Chamber had not been involvel in these tours, but
that the League of Women Voters, and the local historical societies
did work on such a project. It was suggested that Southhold might
be interested, as well as the Park Avenue Association. He mentioned
that after these walking tours, dinner was offered at an important
place, such as, for instance, Tippecanoe Place. There was quite a
little discussion about this and Ms. Davisson remarked that perhaps
the Commission did not understand the amount of work that would go
into such a venture. It was suggested that if the Commission commit
itself to this project, that it must start early. Mr. Smith said -
perhaps Audrey Conley of the Chamber could offer suggestions and per-
haps the Century Center coull be visited.
