July 3, 1975 <br />Department of Human Resources and <br />Economic Development <br />William Hojnacki, Director <br />County -City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen: <br />On the basis of previous discussions concerning the Survey of Historical <br />Places in South Bend, Indiana, 'we submit this proposal as an outline of <br />purpose, scope, and proposed services to be accomplished under a grant <br />from the Department of Human Resources and Economic Development by <br />the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County. <br />PURPOSE <br />The general purpose of the study is to assist in the preservation of <br />valuable historic architecture and sites in the city of South Bend, <br />Indiana. The study will inventory all structures approximately 50 <br />years old and older and generally evaluate those of architectural <br />significance. <br />SCOPE OF SERVICES <br />The work is primarily ar-survey of the physical conditions of the <br />historical sites and existing architecture of South Bend excluding <br />the West Washington Street proposed Historic District. In order <br />to accomplish this, base and survey data will be collected. Maps <br />and recommendations then will be made, based on the results of <br />the data collection. <br />Base Information <br />Gather and review existing data concerning general descrip- <br />tion and historical development of the city. <br />Outline the historical styles common to the community, pro- <br />pose criteria of evaluation, and propose a method for ranking <br />
