April 1+, 1975
Page 2
Commission. She is a graduate student at Texas Tech University
studying Museum Science and would like to work for the Commission
under the College Work Study Program which would mean the Commission
would only have to pay %20 of her salary. Mr. Nimtz asked if there
was any money in the budget to even pay %20 of her salary. Ms.
Schlereth responded that there was not, but if the Commission was
interested in hiring her they might wish to alter their line items and
find money from other categories.
6. Old Business
Community Development & Consultant Selection
Mr. Oxian read the letter which he read before the Common Council
during their public hearings on April 7, 1975 concerning the -
Community Development proposal submitted to the federal govern-
ment by the city. A brief discussion ensured, detailing what
had happened with the Commission's request regarding money under
this proposal, how a formal proposal had not been submitted by
the Commission and the ineffectiveness of the Commission's come
mittee structure and its reliance on verbal assurances. Mr.
Oxian stated that Mr. Hojnacki had informed the Common Council
that they need not approve the allocation of funds under the
Community Development proposal, and that he would find money for
the Commission for the purposes of a survey, probably sometime
after July 15th.
Consequent to this discussion, the Commission next moved on to
consider the selection of a consultant to undertake the survey
of the city and county. The Commission discussed whether they
should first decide what they would like included in a survey
or first decide on a consultant and then work out with that firm
what they would include. After much discussion on the benefits
of going with a local firm and the problems that might or might
not be involved if the Commission were to select the firm of -
Crumlish/Sporleder while Ms. Sporleder was a member of the Com-
mission, Ms. Sporleder absented herself from the room. After
some additional discussion Mr. Rothermel moved that the Commis -
sion the firm of Crumlish/SlPrleder & Associates as
consultant's to the Commission to undertake a survey of the city
and county, with the direction to them that the Commission would
like them to employ an outside consultant (preferably the firm
of Visnapu & Gaede of Cleveland) to evaluate their (Crumlish/
Sporleder) work and give it a review by a firm with a national
reputation in the field of historic preservation. Mr. Nimtz
seconded the motion and Mr. Oxian put the question to a vote.
Mr. Nimtz, Mr. Oxian, Mr. Rothermel and Ms. Woolridge voted Aye.
Ms. Davisson abstained.
Mr. Rothermel next moved that there be no further discussion - on the
position of Ms. Sporleder until the next meeting. Mr. Nimtz sec-
onded the motion. Mr. Rothermel directed Ms. Schlereth to ask
Mr. Johnson of the Area Plan Commission for a statement as to his
position regarding Ms. Sporleder's retention on the Commission if
her husband's firm accepts the Commission's offer. Mr. Nimtz
