-3- 1 <br />0 <br />The social scientists will have isolated particular groups <br />or individuals within the community that have made unique or <br />important contributions to the development or life styles of <br />the area. The residential neighborhoods that people lived in <br />or the'businesses that they established will be recommended <br />to the architects for detailed study, if not already identified <br />by the architectural survey. Cooperation between the two <br />components is essential to the thoroughness and accuracy of <br />the final evaluation. <br />Research will procede through the school year with <br />parti6ipatinS faculty conducting research seminars and guiding <br />independent study projects on topics pertinent to the goals of <br />the proposal. Architects will pursue an in-depth study (map- <br />ping, architectural sketches, condition descriptions and re- <br />habilitation or re -use possibilities) of -individual examples <br />and high priority areas of architectural and/or cultural <br />significance, -Social scientists will gather primary source <br />material and utilize the data to inform scholarly studies on <br />topics within their own disciplines. <br />The project will be concluded in the second summer <br />session with architecture and social science faculty preparing <br />written evaluations of completed research., Recommendations <br />for ways that findings could be implemented in future policy <br />making would be included, where applicable.Publication.of <br />the findings of both the architects and social scientists <br />would be an important factor in fulfilling the obligation <br />to educate the community. The findings of both groups would <br />be made available to faculty and students in the Communication <br />n <br />
