South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - August 4, 1995
6. NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)
a. continued...
proposing to construct an 8,000 sq. ft.
combined general Event Center and
catering facility. The proposed Event
Center would be built on high grounds
overlooking the wetland area of Lot 4. To
take advantage of the views, the building
design will include large areas of
windows, an outdoor courtyard, and a
patio or balcony. Mr. Riggs showed a
schematic design of the building which
proposes glass, cedar, masonry and /or
stucco for exterior building materials to
compliment the existing natural setting.
Phase I also includes a parking lot for 150
cars.
Ask
The Event Center will feature a 4,500 sq.
ft. "Great Hall" capable of accommodating
350 people. The Center will feature on-
site catering for different types of events,
with a focus on weddings, large parties
and meetings. The facility will also offer
services for seminars, meetings, and
business related food events. The Center
will be leased to Anna Gonderman. Ms.
Gonderman is a certified and experienced
chef, trained at the California Culinary
Institute in San Francisco.
( Phase II of the proposed project would be
' the construction of at least one 8,000 sq. ft
office building on a 2.75 acre parcel
adjacent to Tract I. The applicant clearly
states that the construction of the office
building is based on its ability to pre-lease
space in the building. While no firm time
schedule for construction of the office
building was included in the proposal,
Sycamore Hills states that it would
purchase Tract II within five years of
-4-
