South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - June 2, 1995
6. NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)
C. continued...
southeast corner of Garst Street and
Lafayette Boulevard in the Sample -Ewing
Development Area. (Midwest Machine
Products)
Mr. Beitzinger read the staff report on the
project. Midwest Machine Products is a
precision machine shop that manufactures
boots, valves, ferrules, strainers and sleeves
for jet engine fuel control systems. The
company has outgrown its present location
and is proposing to build a new 7,700
square foot steel building at the southeast
corner of Garst Street and Lafayette
Boulevard. The parking lot for the new
location will be asphalt; all old sidewalks
will be removed and replaced; and the lot
will be 100% landscaped. This project is
critical to the continued growth of the
company and will enable them to secure
new and expanded contracts with the
increased space. The total estimated cost of
the new building is $265,000.
It is estimated that this project will create
three (3) new jobs within the first year,
representing a new annual payroll of
$60,000 and will maintain seven (7) existing
permanent full time and no part time jobs,
with an annual payroll of $203,000.
A review of the tax abatements granted,
finds that the petitioner has not been granted
any previous tax abatement consideration.
The property is properly zoned for the
proposed use. The property is located in an
AK
-5-
