OLD BUSINESS (Cont.) <br />b. continued... <br />Upon a motion by Mr. Hojnacki, <br />seconded by Mr. Hunt and unanimously <br />carried, the Commission ratified the <br />submission of the Tax Abatement <br />Petition on behalf of Design Packaging, <br />Inc. <br />C. Commission approval requested for <br />Resolution No. 1340 approving an <br />application for real property tax <br />deduction for property located in the <br />Sample -Ewing Development Area. <br />(Design Packaging, Inc.) <br />AWN Mr. Beitzinger gave the staff report on <br />the project. Design Packaging proposes <br />to build a new 42,000 sft. manufacturing <br />facility on 3.1 acres of land located at <br />the southeast corner of Bronson Street <br />and Lafayette Boulevard, which is the <br />location of the former Tianswestern <br />Building. Design Packaging designs and <br />manufacturers corrugated packaging <br />products. The new building will house <br />the main offices, manufacturing, <br />warehousing and distribution operations. <br />The total cost of the new building is <br />estimated at $950,000. In addition new <br />machinery and equipment used in the <br />manufacturing process will be brought in <br />at an estimated cost of $175,000. <br />While it is unknown at this time the <br />number of jobs this project will create, <br />the petitioner has indicated that one of <br />the precipitating factors in choosing the <br />location in question is to try to maximize <br />the employment opportunities for the <br />minorities in the area.
