South Bend Redevelopment Commission
vFgular Meeting - April 21, 1995
6. NEW BUSEWSS
a. Staff report on disposition of property
in the Airport Economic Development
Area.
Mr. Riggs noted that the Commission
has received a proposal from Toll Road
Industrial Partners to purchase Lot 3 of
k
the Toll Road Industrial Park. They
j propose to construct a 100,000 sq. ft.
expansion of their existing 225,000 sq.
o ft. distribution facility. The proposed
building would be separate from the
existing facility, connected only by a
covered drive. Construction of the
proposed facility is expected to begin in
April 1997, with project completion
scheduled for October 1997.
The proposal includes the purchase of
the approximately 4.8 acre Lot 3 at a
purchase price of $96,000, or $20,000
per acre. The required 10% faithful
performance guaranty was included with
the proposal.
After completion of the proposed
expansion project, Tech Data expects to
employ over 250 people. The South
Bend facility is now the largest Tech
Data facility outside its corporate
headquarters in Clearwater, Florida.
Mr. Riggs noted that since the start of
operations in South Bend last summer,
Tech Data has become the largest UPS
customer in the area.
The Staff recommends approval of the
I above described proposal.
