South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - March 3, 1995
6. NEW BUSINESS
a. Presentation of Southeast Neighborhood
Strategic Action Plan by Southeast
Quality of Life Neighborhood
Association.
Marco Mariani, the Planner who works
with the Southeast Neighborhood,
introduced the representatives of the
Southeast Quality of Life neighborhood
organization who were present to present
the Strategic Action Plan which was
developed by the neighborhood with the
help of Teska & Associates. Mr. Marian
noted that this plan is the result of a lot of
hard work and community vision. It
opens up many possibilities, among which
are a new sense of responsibility which the
residents of the neighborhood are taking
for the well-being of their neighborhood
and an appreciation for the partnership
opportunities available to them with other
sectors of the community.
The four main sections of the Strategic
Action Plan are: capacity - building, land
use and physical environment, housing,
and neighborhood security. Micki Marsh
presented the section on capacity building.
Ms. Marsh noted that there are five issues
which the plan addresses related to
capacity building: the neighborhood's
underutilized human resources, its lack of
a positive self -image and community
image, non - participating residents and
businesses, a weakly structured, poorly
focused neighborhood organization, and
the lack of a sense of unity within the
c -4-
PRESENTATION OF SOUTHEAST
NEIGHBORHOOD STRATEGIC ACTION PLAN
BY SOUTHEAST QUALITY OF LIFE
NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
