co South Bend Redevelopment Commission
gular Meeting - February 4, 1994
6. NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)
c. continued...
list. If you exclude their property from the
list, it's not going to impede the development
in the area. It will mean that you're not
taking Mr. and Mrs. Polack's property
against their will. And it will also mean that
you will avoid any possible challenges to
these proceedings, and the possibility of a
condemnation suit, down the road. This is
Mr. and Mrs. Polack's home. This is where
they raised their children; this is where their
grandchildren now come and play. If you were in their place
and the government said they were going to
take your house away, wouldn't you put up a
fight? Mr. and Mrs. Polack strongly object
to you taking their home. And on their
behalf I ask you to consider excluding their
property from the acquisition list. Thank you
very much.
LINDA PATTELL: I reside at 2806 Hickory
Road, Mishawaka. You see, at one time, in the
1930s, 1940s, 1950s and late 1960s, my
grandmother and her sister owned as many as
twelve apartment homes in the neighborhood,
as well as their own residences. And my
grandmother worked part time and was well
known in the neighborhood. I have many
fond childhood memories there and so it has
been very disturbing to witness the rapid
-27-
