South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - May 21, 1993
6. NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)
a. continued...
exactly what will happen there because we
don't know that yet. That's part of the
planning process with the neighborhood.
How does the neighborhood feel that should
develop and what should we be working for?
That's one of the things we want to work
with the neighborhood on. One of the
reasons we are more specific with the
Southeast is simply that we've drawn a line,
if you will, as to where we think the
redevelopment activities should take place and
south of that line, again, we don't have the
specific plan of action because that's
something we are going to be developing with
the Southeast Neighborhood Association. I
think the plan just addresses that we want it
to be residential, we want it to be
strengthened and enhanced, but it doesn't go
into what programs we will be doing or how
we will achieve that. Those are the types of
planning efforts that need to be done with the
Southeast Neighborhood Association.
MR. COLLIER: So it's not set up to be
residential or anything else?
MRS. KOLATA: It's just recognizing that its
current character differs from the remainder
of the Rum Village area and it will have to be
looked at as a separate unit. It could end up
being residential and that could be what the
neighborhood feels is its best use. We're not
saying it won't be, but we're not saying that
it will be. It's too early to determine that.
-38-
