NEW BUSINESS (Cont.) <br />e. <br />( Southern Hotel) <br />Mrs. Kolata noted that we have a copy of <br />a letter sent by Bert Harrison, Director, <br />Hope Rescue Mission to Mayor Kernan <br />concerning the fact that Hope Rescue <br />mission is interested in using the <br />Soulthern Hotel and is disappointed that <br />the Commission plans to demolish it. Mr. <br />Har rison has asked to make a presentation <br />to he Commission. <br />Mr. =ent: rrison read the following <br />sta <br />I a preciate the opportunity to speak to <br />you and I thank you for time on your busy <br />agenda. What I and a few others would <br />like to do in the next 10 - 12 minutes is <br />to persuade you to at least seriously <br />consider the possibility of developing <br />the Southern Hotel building at Tutt and <br />Mai12 into some constructive use rather <br />than tearing it down at considerable <br />cost. We believe it is a basically sound <br />bui ding with considerable historical <br />val e. <br />About a year ago Hope Rescue Mission <br />began to look seriously at the <br />possibility of developing the Southern <br />Hot 1 building as a new site for the <br />Mission. We had barely gotten started <br />when we learned that it was slated for <br />demolition in the very near future and <br />tha this would happen whether or not we <br />purchased the building. We immediately <br />dro,tped plans to look into it further. <br />A few months ago various things <br />transpired to lead us to feel that <br />possibly that decision was not <br />irrevocable and that the building might <br />yet be salvaged. Our architects, The <br />Tro r Group, told us that they could <br />con ct a feasibility study at the <br />disc unted price of $3,500 that <br />-5- <br />
